Photos taken at Casa Santa Ana feeding station
courtesy of owner John McClung

Not much of a photo, but illustrative of the mayhem around the feeders when the Ruby-throats are migrating. This picture was taken in very early October. There always are Buff-bellieds buzzing around the grounds, and occasional Black-chinned and Rufous. It's amazing how much sugar water these tiny birds can consume in a day, particularly in the evenings when they seem to set aside at least some of their daytime aggressiveness and satisfy themselves tanking up on manmade nectar. The orioles—mainly Altamira and Hooded—also enjoy an occasional run at the feeders.
